Monday 30th March 2020

Hello Swans,

We hope you enjoyed creating your non-chronological reports based on your favourite animal! We can’t wait to see them all. We are incredibly proud of all of the work that you have already completed on Mathletics, Spelling Frame and TT Rockstars, keep it up! This week’s tasks are similar to last week, however, the English writing tasks will be set daily. There will be a selection of tasks with success criterias to show what I am looking for in your writing! Have fun with them, be as imaginative as you can!

  1. Maths Task 1 - please complete up to 1 hour on Mathletics (https://login.mathletics.com/) We have set new tasks on time. Even if you are confident with time, please complete these tasks. I have set problem solving questions for you to have a go at.

Tuesday 31st March 2020

Hello everyone, the Year 4 team hope you had a lovely weekend in the sun and that your timetables are helping you to settle into your home-learning!

Just as a reminder, we are very proud of all of the work that you are completing. Try your hardest with any activities that you attempt, don’t worry if some are tricky, just have a go! We know that it is an extremely strange time for you, your families and also for us adjusting our teaching! All we would like you to do is to complete what you can at home, don’t worry if you don’t finish all of the tasks that we set you every day! Also make sure you have a look at the website links of ideas for different areas in the curriculum. We understand how different this is for everyone. You do not need to send any of your work into us, but once we are back at school, if there is a piece of work that you are proud of, we would love to see it!

Parents, we understand that children will complete different amounts of tasks each day so don’t worry if these tasks aren’t finished. All we ask is that they have a go at them if possible!

The tasks for today:

  1. Maths Task 1 - please complete up to 1 hour on Mathletics (https://login.mathletics.com/) We have set new tasks on time.
  2. Maths Task 2 - complete the sessions set on TT Rockstars (https://ttrockstars.com/).
  3. English Task 1 - spend 15 minutes on Spellingframe Rule 14 games then complete a practice test when you feel confident.
  4. English Task 2 – (three tasks. Have a go at one that you feel you can do or have a go at all 3!)

*: Create two characters and describe them using exciting adjectives and expanded noun phrases. Draw the characters to help you to write a paragraph describing them.

**: Write a dialogue between the two characters. See PowerPoint below for correct direct speech punctuation.

Success criteria:

  • Narration setting the scene for the reader
  • “ at the beginning of what is being said.
  • Capital letter
  • Piece of punctuation at the end (, ? !)
  • ” at the end of what is being said.
  • Reporting clause (asked, replied, yelled)
  • End punctuation (.)
  • New speaker new line

***: Challenge! Set the scene in your story before your dialogue begins. Where are they having the conversation? Why are they having the conversation?

Fun art activity!

Tuesday’s are our art afternoons so here is an activity that you can have a go at!

Hidden treasure

Today we would like you to have a go at painting as many stones and rocks as you can to hide around our school grounds for people to find when we are all back together.  Once they find them, they will hide them somewhere new for someone else to find!

Remember to put your first name on the back so the finder knows who the artist is.

You can paint anything you like on your stone.  You might want to paint PVA glue over your design once your stone is dry so it can’t get washed off in the rain.  If you haven’t got any paint, coloured pencils or sharpies work just as well.

Look at the attachment below for ideas!

Thursday 2nd April 2020

Hello, we hope you are all well. Here are today’s activities as well as Music and French that are attached at the bottom of the page.

  4. English Task 2 – What happens next. Read the story starter and continue the story! What is on the other side of the fence? Remember to plan out your story into paragraphs before you begin. Tomorrow you will be editing your story.

I was puzzled. Things just kept disappearing from our garden. At first it was just small things, like my toy car, then larger things began to go missing. Dad’s lawnmower vanished. Mum’s favourite plant pot with her favourite plants in. Gone! Just gone!

My parents kept saying that there were thieves on our street. I believed them. Of course I believed them! Why wouldn’t I believe them, they’re my parents?! Sneakily, I got into the habit of looking out of my bedroom window with my camera, in the hope that I would catch a snapshot of the crooks in action.

One afternoon, after I had got in from school and done my homework, I stood at my bedroom window. I was ready. I had my camera in hand. I then watched in amazement and shock as the giant oak tree, that had stood in our garden since before I was born, was pulled out from the ground by an unseen force. Its great branches and roots and shaking, green leaves began to be pulled towards a hole, the size of a pound coin, in our garden fence. I watched as the tree began to be squeezed, again by this unseen force, through the hole in the fence.

A minute later I was standing with my camera at the ready, peering through the hole in the fence, desperate to find out what had happened to all the things from our garden. Then…I felt it…My eye began to feel as if it was being squeezed. My head felt as if it was being pulled towards the fence. My whole body seemed to be moving. Suddenly…Pop!

Hi Swans, we hope you are all ok! It has been another strange week and we have missed teaching you all! Today is the final day before the Easter Holidays. We won’t be setting home learning over the holidays but we have attached a document that can be downloaded at the bottom of the page with lots of different fun activities that you could have a go at during the break. Home learning from the last two weeks will still remain on the class page, should you wish to access it and continue with any of the tasks.
