Tuesday 21st April 2020

Hi everyone,

I hope yesterday’s learning went well and you are slowly settling back into your home learning! Remember to have a go and try your best, we know these are difficult times.

NEWS!

You are now able to send me any work that you would like to show me, something you are proud of that you have written, made or created! You need to use your parent/guardian’s email address and NOT one of your own. I will be responding to emails that I receive and can not wait to see what you have been learning at home! Please send emails to puffin@lmpsdorset.co.uk :)

In addition, well done to everyone who tried the new Maths task on White Rose yesterday. We have heard that the website was on a ‘go slow’ in the morning, just like me on a Monday! Lots of people were trying to access the videos so don’t worry, come back to them later on, perhaps in the afternoon and try again.

Something fun and new for you to try!

Yesterday, the BBC started a new scheme to help you with your learning at home by releasing a Bitesize programme every day! They can be found on the Red Button on your TV from 9am or you can watch them at any time on BBC iPlayer! A 20 minute programme with some Super Movers (which I know you all love!) Maths, English and a foundation subject (changes each day). If you also would like more information, visit the BBC Bitesize web page where there are activities, videos and text for you to learn more! I really enjoyed watching yesterday’s programme! Have a go if you would like something different but please make sure you are still completing the daily tasks we set for you.

Where you can find the daily programmes from BBC Bitesize: https://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/group/p089nk5f

Today’s tasks:

  1. Maths Task 1 - White Rose Maths – https://whiterosemaths.com/homelearning/year-4/ Please complete Summer Term Week 1 Lesson 2 ‘Write Decimals’ today. Please watch the video then have a go at the activities and mark with the answers. To help you with this, we have reassigned the decimal activities on Mathletics if you feel you need more practice.
  2. Maths Task 2 - please complete up to 1 hour on Mathletics (https://login.mathletics.com/) We have set new tasks on rounding. We have completed rounding before in class and it can be tricky! It is all about practice and perseverance. (You might like this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pNfz-JU2cKE)

    • Vague
  5. English Task 2 - LO: To write noun phrases.

Watch the short film clip again from Monday if you would like: https://www.literacyshed.com/uglysharkling.html

Part of the story is set under the sea. Write a list of ten things (nouns) you might see under the sea.

Use your imaginations and here are a few to get you started…

coral            ship wreck           shark            rocks           fish

Now using the words (nouns) from your list write 5 noun phrases adding in some interesting adjectives to describe them.

e.g    The brightly coloured coral sat rooted to the rocks.

Challenge: See if you can add some alliteration! E.g. Sinister sharks prowled looking for their prey.

Have a lovely day! :)

Wednesday 22nd April 2020

Hello Puffins,

I hope you’re all well and having fun in the sun! It has been lovely receiving some emails today showing me some of your work, I can't wait to see more! I am really looking forward to receiving your emails and seeing all of the wonderful things that you have been up to. If you would like to send me any work or photos, please ask your parent/guardian to email me on puffin@lmpsdorset.co.uk. From looking at your Mathletics, Spelling Frame and TTR, I know you are all working hard! Well done!

Some of you have already finished all of your Mathletics rounding tasks, which is excellent! I hope that they have gone well. For those of you that I can see have completed them, I have set some new tasks for you to have a go at for the rest of this week.

Today’s tasks:

  1. Maths Task 1 - White Rose Maths – https://whiterosemaths.com/homelearning/year-4/ Please complete Summer Term Week 1 Lesson 3 ‘Compare decimals’ today. Please watch the video then have a go at the activities and mark with the answers. To help you with this, we have reassigned the decimal activities on Mathletics if you feel you need more practise.
  3. Maths Task 3 - complete the sessions set on TT Rockstars (https://ttrockstars.com/).
  4. English Task 1 - spend 15 minutes on Spelling frame Rule 17 games then complete a practice test when you feel confident. The words for this week are:

    • Dialogue
    • League
    • Monologue
    • Plague
    • Rogue
    • Tongue
    • Unique
    • Vague
  5. English Task 2 - LO: To write a short description for a setting of a story.

Yesterday you wrote some fantastic noun phrases describing what you might see under the sea.

Today you are going to use these to write an opening paragraph for a new story, starring you as the main character! Your opening will have you diving down under the water and describing what you can see as you swim around.

It could begin like this:

(Your name) took a deep breath and dived down under the clear, bright blue waves. He/She was amazed at what he/she saw…

Success Criteria:

  • Basic punctuation (full stops, capital letters)
  • Descriptive noun phrases
  • Exciting vocabulary

Extra Challenge: If you want to you can always continue the story. Maybe like Phil you meet a sea creature that needs your help.

What a lovely sunny day! I have loved having the sun out and doing my work in the garden! Here's a photo of me enjoying the sunshine! I hope you are having a good week! Not long until the weekend now. Today we have set our French and Music tasks. You will find these at the bottom of the page. French is a 2 week project that Mrs Markham would like to you have a go at! You can also now send any of your French work to Mrs Markham at french@lmpsdorset.co.uk and you can email your music work to Miss Wells at musiclessons@lmpsdorset.co.uk.

   5. English Task 2 - LO: To be able to identify fronted adverbials.

We have already looked at fronted adverbials in class.

Fronted adverbials describe when, how, where something happens. Fronted adverbials are found at the beginning of a sentence and have a comma after them.

Your Task: We would like you to copy these 5 sentences, then underline the fronted adverbial and circle the verb (doing word) it is describing.

For example:   After lunch, the children played in the garden.

  1. In the morning, Phil rode the train to the beach.
  2. Later in the day, he pulled on his flippers.
  3. Gently, he dived under the waves.
  4. Out of nowhere, a shark swam out of the gloomy darkness.
  5. Under the sea, Phil and Norman played in the sunken ship wreck.

Challenge: Can you write some more sentences using fronted adverbials about Phil and Norman?

In the film we watched at the start of the week Phil was a very good friend. I expect by now you are missing playing with your friends at school, I know I am missing seeing mine :(

So today we would like you to write a letter to a friend. In your letter you can tell them why you are missing them, what makes them such a special friend and what you are looking forward to doing with them when you next get to see them.

You could always ask an adult to help you post this letter to them. As we all know how exciting it can be to get post and this would surely make your friend smile.

Happy Friday Puffins! Have a fun weekend! Stay safe :)
