Maths Homework

Week beginning 7th December

Please continue with Mathletics and TT Rockstars.  In addition to this, you could try some of these games:

You will have to go through as some will be too easy or too hard.  They may just provide you with some fun alternatives.

Week beginning 30th November

Maths homework is the same.  Please log onto Mathletics and TT Rockstars.  Some people have been saying the maths homework has been a little tricky.  This week we are working on money.  If the work on mathletics id tricky, get your child to make amounts and use real money to pay for them.  Recap tens and units that we have been working on, so 38p = 3 tens (30) and 8 units (8).  What coins could make this?  Are there any other ways to make it?

Here are some games to play.  Some are very tricky, please select one your child can do.

Week beginning 23rd November

This week, the children are using money to m ake amounts, find totals and understanding the value of coins.  Please continue with Mathletics to practise these skills.

Week beginning 16.11.20

Please continue with Mathletics and TT Rockstars.

This week in maths, we have been doing subtraction if you wish to practise with your child.

We are also learning number bonds to 10 by heart, should you wish to challenge your child on the way to school!  Have fun!

Week beginning 2.11.20

This week we are practising adding but really focussing on adding using knowledge of place value and looking at the digits and what they stand for.  Remember to get the children to explain how a problem was solved.  How did they do it?  What did they need to know to solve it?  Did they find it hard? why? The more they can explain, the better.  The classic answer will be 'I did it in my head!'  That is great as we are always encouraging them to use mental maths but HOW did you do it in your head?  What did you do?

Week beginning 19.10.20

Continue with TT Rockstars and Mathletics.  The children are practising adding and subtracting 10 and 1.  Look at which digit changes.  Why does it change?

We are teaching the children to reason about their answers.  Encourage your child to talk about how they solved a problem.  Use sentence starters such as:

I know __________ so it must be _________

The answer was ______ because________

Please encourage the children to verbalise what they are doing.  If the say 'I did it in my head'  get them to explain how.

Week beginning 12.10.20

Keep going with TT Rockstars!  Some of you are getting very competitive with your scores.  Mathletics is still progressing with place value and what the digits stand for in a 2 digit number.  The children are making good progress so keep up the good work!

Week beginning 5.9.20

Place value is still our topic.  Can the children tell you what a digit is?  Can they tell you how many tens and ones are in a number?  Can they compare 2 numbers and talk about these signs? < and >

Continue with mathletics and TT Rockstars.

Week beginning 28.9.20

Once again log on to TT Rockstars and mathletics.  This week, we are focussing on number and place value.  This is to support learning we are doing in the classroom.  Keep going with TT Rockstars, it amends the level as you progress.  Have fun!

Week beginning 21.9.20

Please use your logins to access TT Rockstars and Mathletics.  Once logged on, work through what is there for you.  Like with the English homework, if online learning is not for you, take the skills from the homework and practise them in fun ways using pasta, shells, cubes, or whatever can make it more visual for your child.

Have fun!
