Friday 22nd May 2020

Happy Friday Butterflies! You have made it through another week of home learning and I can’t believe that we are now at the end of a half term! Next week there will be no home learning as it is your half term holiday. I know that it may be a bit different and you won’t be able to go away on holiday but, hopefully you will still have lots of things to get up to! I plan to read my book in the sunshine, do some baking and go for walks in different places. I will also still be looking after your sunflowers, which are all growing well and have been re-potted because they are getting so big! Here is a picture of them:

Here is the home learning for today:

1. Maths Task 1 - please complete up to 30 minutes on Mathletics https://login.mathletics.com/. The tasks have been assigned for you to do.

2. Maths Task 2- We are continuing with our White Rose maths and this week is all about number!

  • Please go tohttps://whiterosemaths.com/homelearning/year-1/
  • Please click on Summer - Week 3 w/c 4th May
  • You will see Lesson 5 Friday Challenge . This is today’s lesson.

3. English Task  – No spellings today as it is half term!! So we have one English task for you today! There is also no learning objective as we want you to just have a go and have fun today.

Activity - Today you're going to play a game of BOGGLE! In the game you have to see how many words you can make out of the letters that are in the grid below. To make the game more exciting, you can time yourself using a sand timer or a stopwatch for 2 or 3 minutes! You can even play this game against other people! Who will get the most amount of words? Make sure you write them down on a piece of paper.

I hope you have a lovely, happy half term break!

Thursday 21st May 2020

Hi Butterflies! Hope you had a good day yesterday in the sunshine and are ready to get started today with your learning. I had another look at Harold’s daily diary yesterday, do you remember Harold the giraffe from our Scarf lessons? Can you now write a set of instructions which someone else could follow to make themselves a bowl of cereal? You can use the template below to help you set out your instructions - remember to use bossy verbs to start your sentences, for example, First get a bowl.

**Extra Art Activity**

When I went for a walk in Swanage last weekend we saw some lovely painted pebbles that people had decorated with rainbows, pretty pictures and happy messages. I really enjoyed looking at them all and it made me feel happy to see them. We didn’t pick them up because they have been put there for everyone to enjoy and it made me want to paint my own pebble, so Mr Stokes found me a nice, round, flat pebble and I plan to paint it to remind me of our trip to Swanage. I think I will keep it in my garden. Have you ever painted a pebble? We did paint pebbles last year when you were in Reception to decorate the school. Do you remember? Here are some ideas if you want to paint a pebble of your own! You could paint a butterfly on it to remind you of our time together in class! I will post a picture of my pebble when I finish it!

Wednesday 20th May 2020

Good morning Butterfly Class! I hope you had a good sleep and are ready for another day of home learning. How did you get on with your super villain activity yesterday? Alice came up with a great villain, she really enjoyed the activity. Her villain is called Ice Queen and she can turn people to ice by touching her special, magical moonstone necklace! She even drew a picture of her villain, I wonder what villains you came up with?

Here is the home learning for today:

1. Maths Task 1 - please complete up to 30 minutes on Mathletics https://login.mathletics.com/. The tasks have been assigned for you to do.

2. Maths Task 2- We are continuing with our White Rose maths and this week is all about number!

4. English Task 2 - Learning Objective - To read and understand a sentence.

Activity - Today I have a fun game for you to play on your computer, ipad or your grown ups phone. It's called Yes/No Yeti and you have to read the sentence (no grown ups helping!) and then decide if the answer is yes or no! Think carefully about whether the question sounds silly or not and whether it makes sense....that will help you with your answer.

https://www.phonicsbloom.com/uk/game/yes-no-yeti?phase=5

If this is too tricky - you can go back and try Phase 3 or 4 - they will be slightly easier. If you would like a challenge you could try Phase 6!

Once you have played the game, have a go at writing some yes/no questions for your family. You could even ask other people in your family or friends on the phone or on a video call!

Tuesday 19th May 2020

Look at the page showing Laughing Lass - who is the enemy she saves the world from? Do the same for Mr Quick, Rain Man and Volcano. Who are their enemies?

Lets think about yesterdays activity - spelling and using words ending in 'ing'. Read the description below about the Joker. Can you spot any 'ing' words?

Read the powerful adjectives used to describe the Joker - can you think of anymore? Your challenge today is to invent your own Super-Villain! You can use the template below or just make up your own. Think of as many adjectives as you can to describe them and try to include some 'ing' words if possible.

**Extra Science Activity**

I have been back on the BBC Bitesize website and found another cool science game for you to explore called ‘Galaxy Pugs’! I had a little go on it and it has lots of activities linked to our science topics that we have done this year including: animals, plants and materials! It has a spaceship on it that you can decorate and choose the colour too, I chose a rainbow one. Have a go at some of the activities and see how many points you can score, use the link below, you will find ‘Galaxy Pugs’ under the game section!

Monday 18th May 2020

Hello Butterfly class! I hope you all had a lovely and relaxing weekend. What did you get up to? Now that we are allowed to go out and exercise more, did you go out anywhere outside the village? I did go outside the village, I went to Poole Park to teach Bobby how to ride his bike and give Alice some practise on her bike.

Here are your sunflowers. As you can see they are growing beautifully and none have been eaten by slugs… Yet!! I am now thinking about re-potting them into individual pots so that they are ready for you each to take home, when the time comes. Some of them are getting so tall that they will be needing a lolly stick to hold them up! The tallest measures 7cm and that sunflower belongs to MG! Can you work out who from their initials??

Here is the home learning for today:

1. Maths Task 1 - please complete up to 30 minutes on Mathletics https://login.mathletics.com/. The tasks have been assigned for you to do.

4. English Task 4 - SUPERHEROES! Learning Objective - To spell 'ing' words

Activity - Today we are focusing on superheroes! Watch the story below:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WDSeC-mOYaE

Which is your favourite out of these superheroes? Why did you like them?

Go back to the pages of the Superhero ABC showing Bubble Man and Captain Cloud.

*What does Bubble Man do? He blows bubbles at bullies. We can say his special skill is blowing bubble.

*What does Captain Cloud do? He calmly catches crooks. We can say, he is good at catching crooks.

Look at the picture below explaining how to spell 'ing' words.

Can you turn each verb in the table below into an 'ing' word?

Friday 15th May 2020

Happy Friday! Well we’ve made it to the end of another week of home learning! Well done for all your hard work. I hope you are able to relax and enjoy your weekend, perhaps you should think about what you want to do over the weekend. 4. English Task 2 - Learning Objective - To identify an appropriate spelling of the sound 'or'

Activity - As we know, there is more than one way of spelling different sounds we have already learnt. Today I would like you to identify which spelling of 'or' goes with each picture.

Look at the chart below - you can use this or just write a list of the words on your own piece of paper.

**Extra Art Activity**

If you are feeling arty today I thought I would share The Dorset Art Spy theme for the week. This week’s theme is ‘under the sea’. This is great for us in Year 1 because usually we have a topic all about the sea in the Summer Term. There are lots of different things that you could create that would show something from under the sea such as: fish, a coral reef, divers diving under the sea or sharks! You could paint a picture, use colour pencils or make a collage. I have found some pictures to give you all some ideas! I would love to see what art work you create!

Thursday 14th May 2020

Good Morning Butterflies! I miss seeing each of you every day but, hopefully it won’t be too much longer until we can all be back together again! Did you start your reading challenge yesterday? 4. English Task 2 - Today we will focus on Grammar. Learning Objective - To distinguish between adjectives, verbs and nouns.

Activity - Let's remind ourselves of what each word means.

An adjective is a describing word - pretty, big, cool, hot.

A verb is a doing word - run, jump, hop, drink.

A noun is a thing - table, pencil, ball.

You can watch these videos to help explain a little further https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/topics/zrqqtfr

Now I'd like you to get a piece of paper and split it into three parts - then write these headings at the top.

Noun                                         Verb                                    Adjective

Write as many words as you can underneath each heading in 5 minutes. You could make it more challenging by turning it into a scavenger hunt around your home! Run around and find objects, describe them and say what they are for or what they do!

Wednesday 13th May 2020

Hi Butterflies! It has been very windy out these last couple of days, hasn’t it? Especially on Monday,  when I went for a lovely walk down to the church in the village with Alice and Bobby. Have you ever been there? I hope you have been getting out in the fresh air for your daily exercise. Remember you don’t have to walk you could cycle or scoot! Alice has just learnt how to ride her bike without stabilisers and is enjoying going for bike rides everywhere!

Practise spelling these words on a piece of paper - you could rainbow write them in different colours, write them in different sizes or if different places all over your paper!

We are going to write questions today from Hen, Frog or Mouse - you choose. You must start with one of the question words above! For example:
