A high-quality geography education should inspire in pupils a curiosity and fascination about the world and its people that will remain with them for the rest of their lives. Teaching should equip pupils with knowledge about diverse places, people, resources and natural and human environments, together with a deep understanding of the Earth’s key physical and human processes. As pupils progress, their growing knowledge about the world should help them to deepen their understanding of the interaction between physical and human processes, and of the formation and use of landscapes and environments.
What will be coming up during the Autumn Term?
Our Humanities topics are split up across the year and the Autumn term is mostly History focused. However Year 3's topic, 'Location, Location' discovers Europe and the Americas, focusing on their physical and human features. The children will learn how to use maps when locating countries within Europe, North and South America, learning the compass directions and undertaking fieldwork to observe, measure and record.
Year 4 - Leeson House Trip
After half term, Year 4 will be going on an amazing trip to Leeson House where they will have the opportunity to learn all about our beautiful coastline around Swanage. The children will experience fossil hunting, pond dipping and will learn about the natural environment. They will walk along the famous Jurassic coastline and play team building games. The Leeson House educational visit is one that is remembered into adulthood and an excellent experience for all. The children come back brimming with new knowledge and excitement from the experience.
